What goes in your glass recycling bin

Your silver wheeled bin with a teal lid is for your glass recycling. You may also have a Recycling Ollerton and Boughton (ROB) glass recycling box.

What you can include

When sorting your glass recycling for collection, you can include:

  • food jars
  • drink bottles
  • toiletry jars, which have contained things such as face creams or aftershave
  • perfume bottles
  • reed diffuser bottles

Preparing your recycling

When preparing your glass recycling for collection, remember to:

  • empty and clean all the glass items
  • remove plastic lids and silicone seals where possible (you can leave metal lids attached)
  • leave labels on

We will not collect any recycling that is not in your bin. The lid on the bin must be closed.

What you cannot include

Do not include:

  • oven-proof glass such as Pyrex
  • mirrors
  • drinking glasses
  • vases
  • nail varnish bottles
  • panes of window or greenhouse glass
  • microwave plates
  • spectacles
  • light bulbs and tubes

These items cannot be recycled as they are designed to withstand higher temperatures, meaning they cannot be recycled with your normal household glass.

If you have some of these items in good condition, they could be reused and you could donate them to a local charity. If these items are in poor condition, they should go in your general waste bin or taken to a local recycling centre.
