Newark and Sherwood District Council is committed to doing all it can to support residents and businesses across Newark and Sherwood with the rising cost of living, while still maintaining all its vital services.

Newark and Sherwood District Council's new temporary accommodation, Alexander Lodge, is set to welcome residents as early as March 2024, four weeks ahead of schedule. The District Council will temporarily house those experiencing homelessness at the new facility. 

A new Community Hub, which will provide a space for skills development, social activities, and support for local residents in Boughton, has been given the green light by Newark and Sherwood District Council's planning committee.

Councillor Paul Peacock, Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “The recent flooding has had a detrimental effect on people’s lives, I’m determined that our council will be proactive in getting all stakeholders around the table to tackle this issue rather than waiting to see what will happen next time flooding happens.

Newark and Sherwood District Council has organised two business support events to help local businesses gain valuable advice and support on expanding their operations and keeping themselves safe from cybercrime.

A huge milestone on the road to a greener future for Newark and Sherwood has been achieved as Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) for major developments set in from Monday 12 February 2024.

Councillor Paul Taylor, Portfolio Holder for Public Protection and Community Relations, will put the motion forward, encouraging fellow Councillors to vote for its adoption and cement a promise that the District Council will do all it can to help minimise the catastrophic consequences seen in recent floods.

Our Gypsy and Traveller communities form a longstanding part of Newark and Sherwood’s population.  As any population grows, Government legislation requires that Councils across the UK plan to meet the increasing housing needs of all sections of their local community. This is no different for our Gypsy and Traveller communities. Providing land for any type of housing can be difficult, but for our growing Gypsy and Traveller communities it is often even more complex, relying on the right land in the right place being allocated for this purpose or being available.
