Newark and Sherwood District Council hosted the fourth annual Newark and Sherwood Economic Growth Conference 2024 on Thursday 10 October. It was held at The Renaissance at Kelham Hall and the conference theme was ‘Technology, skills and the future of business in Newark and Sherwood.’

Historical comedy character Professor Edvard Von Goosechaser has been entertaining crowds at the National Civil War Centre for the past 7 years and now he’s back with hilarious hellraising show Sects and Violence, perfect for the Halloween season.

Residents are invited to join a unique and engaging workshop led by the Open Doors team, from the National Civil War Centre, at Edwinstowe Library on Tuesday 29 October, 10.30am to 12.30pm.

The National Civil War Centre is soon to unveil a new and vibrant exhibition, ‘A Polish Heart Beats Here’, celebrating the rich and diverse Polish culture within Newark and Sherwood.

Over the past month, Newark and Sherwood District Council’s Environmental Protection, Community Protection and Licensing Officers have taken part in two successful multiagency operations, cracking down on rogue traders carrying waste without the correct documents.

In an effort to combat serious anti-social behaviour on the Yorke Drive estate in Newark, the District Council in partnership with Nottinghamshire Police have taken more enforcement action following on from two Closure Orders made by the Magistrates court last month.  

Newark and Sherwood District Council’s Community Grant Scheme has been able to support a wide range of programmes and projects across the district including the Newark Amateur Boxing Club (NABC) who are able to provide boxing sessions to young people at risk of exclusion and/or anti-social behaviour. The sessions will help young people channel their energy into something positive and healthy whilst teaching them about self-discipline, confidence and work ethic.  

Alongside their partner organisations, Newark and Sherwood District Council continue to make their resident’s health a priority by continuing their important work to address health inequalities and improve health and wellbeing across the area.

This Recycle Week, Newark and Sherwood District Council has set its sights on communicating the importance of recycling to young people in the Gen Z demographic. Taking advantage of the ‘Gen Z writes the script’ social media trend, they have produced a short video starring officers from across their waste and recycling teams, using slang associated with Gen Z to talk about how, what and why to recycle.
