Newark and Sherwood District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Sustainable Economic Development.

Councillor Paul Peacock, Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council said, “Councillor Matthew Spoors will be standing down from his position on the District Council’s Cabinet as Portfolio Holder for Sustainable Economic Development.  Councillor Claire Penny who has a wealth of experience and passion for our local economy in Newark and Sherwood will be taking the Portfolio forward.  I would like to thank Councillor Spoors for all his hard work and wish him well as he moves to the Green Party. I am really looking forward to working with Councillor Penny on our many exciting plans and am confident she will be a huge asset to our Cabinet moving forward.”

Footage released of reckless incident in award winning park

With the summer holidays in full swing, a reckless act of anti-social behaviour by a group of young people has left a cherished local park vandalised, damaged and burned. To highlight the risks and dangers of starting fires in public parks, Newark and Sherwood District Council has released footage of the incident.

Consultation Launched to Inform Solar Energy Planning Approach

A new consultation is being launched to seek local opinions on solar energy and inform the development of a new Supplementary Planning Document, a draft of which was discussed at this week’s Newark and Sherwood District Council Cabinet Meeting. Once finalised, this document will become part of the Council’s Local Development Framework and be used to help determine future planning applications.

Fascinating archaeological discoveries found during work on 32 Stodman Street

Archaeology work in Newark has identified Medieval features including walls, wells, enclosure boundaries and pits, one of which contained a fully intact horse burial.  Other discoveries include roof tiles, pottery, metalwork, and animal bones. These are just some of the amazing finds discovered by archaeologists as part of the redevelopment at 32 Stodman Street.

Newark and Sherwood District Council have rolled out a programme of visits to all 5383 tenants in order to get to know them and to ensure tenants know how to get involved in services and scrutinise performance, signpost for any support needs and check their home is safe and secure.

District Council Pledges To Do More To Alleviate Flooding

Newark and Sherwood District Council has pledged to continue its hard work to alleviate local flooding and to seek more support from Government. At Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting, councillors confirmed their support for a Motion made last week by Councillor Paul Taylor which will see the District Council lobby local MPs, East Midlands Mayor Claire Ward and the Government for support, both financial and in reviewing and developing regulations and legislation.
