Spectacular animated adventure attracts more than 3,900 visitors to Newark Market Place

Footfall figures from Newark and Sherwood District Council show that Friday night (Friday 1 November) was the busiest night of the year so far. Between 4pm and 9pm more than 3,900 visitors braved the cold November air to enjoy ‘A Likely Story’, a spectacular animated adventure screened onto the historic Town Hall in the heart of Newark.

New Exhibition, ‘A Polish Heart Beats Here’, Now Open at the National Civil War Centre

The National Civil War Centre hosted an opening event on Sunday 27 October for it’s new and vibrant exhibition ‘A Polish Heart Beat’s Here’ / 'Tu Bije Polskie Serce' a captivating tribute to Polish culture and history, which was co-created by Open Doors and the local Polish community. The exhibition will be open to the public from Tuesday 29 October 2024 to Saturday 26 April 2025.

Heritage and Culture Provision Across District Celebrated

Work being done to review the Heritage and Culture offer in the district has been a topic of discussion this week. At Monday’s Newark and Sherwood District Council Policy and Performance Improvement Committee, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Heritage, Culture and the Arts, Councillor Rowan Cozens, presented a summary of activity, both undertaken and planned, to offer more arts engagement for local residents.

District Council Offers Updates On Climate Emergency Actions

In 2019, Newark and Sherwood District Council declared a Climate Emergency, setting a target to reduce the impact of climate change and achieve carbon neutrality by 2035. Monday’s Policy and Performance Improvement Committee was an opportunity for District Councillors to look at the progress that has been made towards this goal.

District Council Offers Free Bat Boxes To Local Schools

At a time where images of bats can be seen decorating our houses and public places for Halloween, Newark and Sherwood District Council is doing their bit to ensure we see more of the real thing in the local area, working together with Newark College to offer free bat boxes to local schools. The handmade homes for furry flying critters are being crafted by the talented students at Newark College and local schools are now being invited to apply for their very own box.

Economic Growth Conference proves a hit with local businesses

Newark and Sherwood District Council hosted the fourth annual Newark and Sherwood Economic Growth Conference 2024 on Thursday 10 October. It was held at The Renaissance at Kelham Hall and the conference theme was ‘Technology, skills and the future of business in Newark and Sherwood.’
