Community groups and charities across the district can now apply for up to £20,000 to help deliver projects and schemes that improve the lives of residents through the District Council's Community Grant Scheme.

Newark and Sherwood District Council is holding its very first meeting to celebrate our district’s passion for music, while looking to what the future could hold for music enthusiasts. On Monday 13 May, Councillor Rowan Cozens, Deputy Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council and Portfolio Holder for Heritage, Culture and the Arts is chairing this important inaugural meeting. 

The Time to Connect Arts Trail is officially open at all six sites across Nottinghamshire, including Newark and Sherwood’s very own Vicar Water Country Park!

No Mow May is back for 2024, and this year the District Council is leaving more areas to grow than ever before!

On 29 October 2023, the main pool at Southwell Leisure Centre was closed. The pool was leaking 9,000 litres of water a day and the safety of users of the pool could not be guaranteed. Southwell Leisure Centre Trust, the owners of the leisure centre, supported the closure of the pool.

Newark and Sherwood District Council have awarded Newark and Sherwood CVS £33k of UK Shared Prosperity Funding (UKSPF) to support and enhance the delivery of their ‘Golden Thread’ project.

The National Civil War Centre will play host to ‘May the Fourth Be with You’ - a special ‘Family Saturday’ event that promises to be a fun day for all on Saturday 4 May, between 10am and 4pm.

More than 8,000 people visited Newark town centre on Saturday 27 April where it was buzzing with excitement as a whole host of free events took place! Small Business Showcase, the Plastic Ocean Show, Newark Castle Open Day and the Race to the Castle paddleboard competition brought in more visitors than an average Saturday, with 37% of those visiting being new visitors to the town.
