Newark and Sherwood District Council have agreed to support five key charities and not-for-profit organisations by granting three years of funding to help provide security and stability for services being delivered in the district. The charities have historically received funding from the District Council through Service Level Agreements.

A brand-new summer installation has been installed in Newark Market Place which aims to animate the town centre and add some colour for visitors while they shop.

On June 16th, Newark Creates, in association with SO Festival, are welcoming two international Street Theatre & Outdoor Arts shows to Newark. There will be juggling, Hip Hop dancing Hippos, and the chance to have a go at activities across the market. An enjoyable day out for the whole family, and it’s free too!

Newark and Sherwood District Council is committed to providing defibrillators in the community, across the district. Between the existing locations in Hawtonville at the Co-Op on Churchill Drive and the Tom Mann Pavilion at Devon Park, a need for new defibrillator was identified to provide greater coverage in this ward.

Newark and Sherwood District Council has received confirmation that they have successfully completed the validation process for the funding bid for Ollerton and Clipstone. This confirmation takes the council into the final stages of securing the £20m cash injection after the initial ‘in principle’ announcement in November 2023.

Newark and Sherwood District Council appointed a new Chair and Vice-Chair during the Annual Council meeting on Tuesday 21 May. Nominations were invited for the Chair by Councillor Celia Brooks as her final duty as Chair.  Councillor Jean Hall was nominated by Councillor Rowan Cozens, Deputy Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council and seconded by Councillor Susan Crosby. She was then elected unanimously by council members. She will remain in office for the coming year.

Last week, Newark and Sherwood District Council received a grant of £1.4million from The National Lottery Heritage Fund for its ambitious plans to create a new and improved visitor attraction at Newark Castle.
