The Local Development Framework and what it's used for
Our district faces many future challenges including:
- providing new housing and jobs
- creating new infrastructure and facilities
- tackling climate change
The planning system has a key role in helping to manage these changes.
The Local Development Framework (LDF) sets out how we’re working to tackle these issues by bringing together a group of documents setting out our planning policy.
What the Local Development Framework is made up of
The LDF is made up of:
- the Amended Core Strategy
- the Allocations and Development Management Development Plan Document
- a policies map – this shows which policies and allocations apply to which part of the district
- supplementary planning documents (SPDs) – they provide further detail on policies within the district’s development plan documents (DPDs).
- neighbourhood plans, in some parishes
Planning applications
Decisions on planning applications are assessed against:
- the Local Development Framework
- National Planning Policy Framework – GOV.UK
The new Local Plan
We are developing a new Local Plan. This will eventually replace the Local Development Framework.
