Newark and Sherwood District Council is setting out proposals to help reduce the number of empty homes in the district by increasing the Council Tax premium charged to owners of properties that have remained empty for a prolonged period of time.

A masterplan that outlines transformational objectives and a strategy for delivery to maximise the Sherwood Forest visitor offer is being developed by Newark and Sherwood District Council and partner organisations.

After two successful rounds of Newark and Sherwood District Council’s Community Grant Scheme, a further 37 groups have applied for a third-round of funding, which will see the total cash boost for community group projects across Newark and Sherwood reach £150,000.

Thanks to funding by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund a new grant has been awarded to expand the Door to Door service. The funding will allow the service to increase operations into evenings and weekends and offer additional befriending support to attend activities.

A revised tenancy agreement that has included feedback and comments from tenants living in the district is being brought to Councillors at Newark and Sherwood District Council for approval at a Cabinet meeting this month.
