Set to launch in March 2025 the Newark and Sherwood Gift Card is designed to encourage people to shop local and support our town centres. Both national and independent businesses of any size will easily be able to accept the card with no additional equipment or cost required.

Newark and Sherwood District Council is celebrating the great work and dedication of its apprentices during this week’s National Apprenticeship Week 2025.

On Wednesday evening, the Government wrote to the Leaders and Chief Executives of all nine Councils in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire formally inviting them to submit proposals to create a new, City and County-wide structure of unitary authorities.

A piece of artwork that features more than 160 drawings from Newark residents has gone up as part of the construction wall around 32 Stodman Street in the town centre.

On this date, the UK Government wrote to Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Leaders, and along with another 21 areas across the UK, asked us to submit proposals on what new unitary councils could look like in Nottinghamshire.  In other words, how we would split up our area to meet the Government’s LGR criteria.  The proposal guidance is below:

A new self-contained toilet, changing and showering facility is now open at the Dukeries Leisure Centre. Funded by Newark and Sherwood District Council the facility will mean customers using the leisure centre who require accessible amenities will now be able to change safely and comfortably.

An independent Corporate Peer Review has concluded that Newark and Sherwood District Council is making a real and tangible difference on residents’ lives, is committed to delivering good and effectively run services to the communities it serves and has a great positive and welcoming culture.

On Saturday 25 January, Rainworth and Blidworth Boxing Club officially reopened for the community, following essential improvements undertaken on site. The Club has successfully raised over £120,000 to help fund works, with £100,000 awarded from Newark and Sherwood District Council through the Rural England Prosperity Fund and UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

To commemorate the legacy of WWII Polish hero and humanitarian Irena Sendler, Newark and Sherwood District Council and Newark Town Council have today launched the Irena Sendler Young Person Award.
