Tenant engagement

Get involved with our tenant engagement community and help shape what we do and how we do it.

If you are a Newark and Sherwood District Council tenant or leaseholder and care about your home, where you live and the housing services that you receive, why not help us to improve what we do and how we do it?

Tenant Annual Report

Our Tenant Annual Report 2024-25 (PDF, 27mb) provides an overview of the housing services we deliver.

We welcome any comments you may have - your input really does make a difference. You can provide feedback by telephone on 01636 650 000 or email comments@newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk

Tenant involvement opportunities

If you want to get involved you can either speak informally to a tenant who is already involved or, if you want general advice about what is available at the moment, email our tenant engagement officers at getinvolved@newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk.

Tenant views feed into important decision‑making groups, such as the Tenant Engagement Board, Housing Assurance Board, and the council’s Policy and Performance Improvement Committee

We also have Tenant Champions covering different areas in Newark and Sherwood. Tenant Champions help make sure tenant perspectives are heard on key issues such as building safety.

If you prefer something more hands‑on, you can join one of our specific engagement opportunities, such as:

  • empty homes inspectors
  • cleaning inspectors
  • themed working groups
  • grounds maintenance champions
  • sounding board
  • consultations

These roles let you give practical feedback on the services that matter to you.

For people interested in particular issues or topics, our Community Link Groups bring together tenants who want to share ideas, experiences, and solutions.

Tenant Engagement Board

The Tenant Engagement Board is a group of tenants who work closely with the council to make sure tenant voices genuinely shape housing services.

Members review policies, give feedback on planned changes, and make recommendations to improve the way we deliver services. Their role is to make sure real tenant experiences guide what we do and how we do it.

Housing Assurance Board

The Housing Assurance Board is responsible for making sure the council is meeting its legal duties, keeping homes safe, and delivering good‑quality services.

It brings together councillors, senior officers, and tenant representatives to look at performance, safety, complaints, and risks across all housing services.

The board checks that we are doing what we say we will do, holding the service to account, and making sure tenants are treated fairly and consistently.

Tenant Engagement Champions

Tenant Engagement Champions give tenants the opportunity to speak to one another and share their views on their local community with council officers.

More information is available on our Tenant Engagement Champions page including details on how you can get involved.

Our Community Link Groups complement and provide feedback to our Local Influence Network.
