Care leaver discount
A Council Tax discount is available to care leavers aged 18 to 25.
How to qualify
You are defined as a care leaver, in this instance, if you’re aged between 18 and 25, currently reside in the district and are required to pay Council Tax.
One of the following must also apply:
- you’re a care leaver living on your own
- you live only with other care leavers
- you live with one other adult
How much is the discount
- 100% discount will be awarded if you live alone or with other care leavers
- 25% discount if you live with one other adult
How to apply
The discount should automatically be applied to your Council Tax account. If you do receive a Council Tax bill asking you to pay please contact us.
How will the discount be applied?
The reduction will be awarded after all other relevant discounts, reductions and exemptions have been awarded.
Where the reduction is awarded, it will remain in place until your 25th birthday, or until you cease to be liable for the Council Tax, whichever date occurs first. In these circumstances, the bill will be apportioned.
