Newark’s Market Place is looking a lot brighter all of a sudden thanks to the addition of hundreds of colourful umbrellas hanging above the square. The installation, launched on an ironically sunny Wednesday by Newark Creates, is part of the nationwide Neurodiversity Umbrella Project and is designed to represent the one in five of us who have a neurodevelopmental condition, such as ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia or Tourette’s syndrome.

Most residents will have received their energy support discount automatically from their energy supplier. However, there are a significant number of residents who are eligible for the discount and may not realise that they need to apply for this support.

An exciting two-day Food and Drink Festival is on its way to Newark’s Town Centre at the end of May.

Rural businesses in the district can now apply for funding to support capital projects that address challenges faced in local rural areas. Thanks to Newark and Sherwood District Council, an extra £891k is secured over the next two years to develop and invest in rural communities and the economy. 

The Newark and Sherwood District Council, Parish and Town Council elections were held on Thursday 4 May 2023. The count then took place on Friday 5 May 2023. You can find the results of the elections on our website.

Volunteer students at Newark Orchard School have undertaken a community improvement project led by Volunteer It Yourself (VIY).  Supported by Newark and Sherwood Council, through funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the project will provide practical skills for young people between the ages of 14 and 24.  

Newark and Sherwood District Council are again offering a series of one-hour sessions for local businesses who wish to receive free specialist and local support to help them thrive.
