There were lots to celebrate across Newark and Sherwood with a number of groups, businesses and volunteers picking up coveted awards at the East Midlands in Bloom annual competition, organised by the EMIB Regional Committee in September 2025.

Today, Councillor Paul Peacock and Councillor Claire Penny officially signed the business case for the transformative Ollerton Town Centre Regeneration Project, marking a major milestone in the journey to revitalise the heart of Ollerton.

Following the success of its Green Gateways pilot scheme, Newark and Sherwood District Council is launching an annual programme to bring wildflower planting to the entrances and exits of towns and villages across the district.

The Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery has drawn it’s very first £25,000 jackpot winner. A local resident from Newark, matched all six numbers in the 20 September draw and took home the top prize. The win marks the first time a resident in the district has won the jackpot since the community lottery was launched in 2021.

Families across Newark and Sherwood are in for a treat this October Half Term, with a vibrant line-up of activities and events at the National Civil War Centre and Palace Theatre Newark. From amazing museum trails to thrilling live performances, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Each year we send annual registration forms to every household in the district so that we know who is eligible to vote. These were sent in August and it’s important everyone responds.

We have seen statements and social media content from Nottinghamshire County Council, and Rushcliffe Borough Council on the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire LGR engagement exercise. There are a number of inaccuracies we feel we need to address.

The Newark and Sherwood Community and Sports Awards 2025, organised by Newark and Sherwood District Council in partnership with Radio Newark, concluded with resounding success on Friday 26 September at The Renaissance at Kelham Hall in Newark. The event honoured incredible individuals who have gone above and beyond to support the community and champion the growth of sports.

A public engagement exercise with over 11,000 responses has found that people favour a North – South split when it comes to re-organising Local Government in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
