Information on collections and food waste caddies

How often will my food waste be collected?

Your food waste will be collected weekly on the following days:

  • Monday if you have received caddy liners
  • Tuesdays if you have not received caddy liners

What happens with missed collections?

If we miss your caddy, we ask that you log the missed collection the usual way by reporting it on our website: Report a missed bin collection

Will I keep my existing bins when food waste collections are introduced?

Yes. You will have the following bins:

  • Food waste caddy
  • Green or black household waste bin
  • Silver recycling bin
  • Teal-lidded glass recycling bin

If you have signed up to the Garden Waste service, you will also have a brown bin.

How do I lock my outdoor caddy?

Your outdoor caddy will have a lockable lid and is collected every week, helping to keep food waste secure until collection day. To lock the lid, move the handle to an upright or forward position. To open the caddy, move the handle to the back of the caddy.

Please also make sure your handle is in an upright position when you present your caddy for collection.

What if I do not have enough space to store the food waste caddies?

We know space can be limited, especially in flats or shared homes. The kitchen food caddy has been designed to sit in your kitchen. If you don't want to use it or don't have the space, you can use your own container or put food waste in a liner and then straight into the larger outdoor caddy and present that for weekly collection.

The outdoor food caddy is much smaller than the usual wheeled bins.

What if I do not want a food waste caddy?

We really hope you'll choose to join in, as it helps reduce waste and supports a more sustainable way of managing food waste.

If you decide not to take part, you do not need to contact us and we won't collect the food waste caddies from you as they belong at your property. If you decide at a later date to take part, then you will have the food caddies ready to use.
