Notice of intention to commence preparation of the Newark and Sherwood Local Plan
On 31 March 2026, we gave notice of our intention to commence preparation of a new Local Plan, known as the Newark and Sherwood Local Plan. This plan will cover the whole of Newark and Sherwood District.
This intention is set out in a formal notice of intention.

- Publish Local Plan timetable – 31 March 2026

- Scoping consultation – 1 July 2026 to 30 July 2026
Gateway 1 – starts 1 September 2026
- Publish gateway findings – 22 September 2026
23 months preparation – September 2026 to August 2028
- Publish summary of scoping consultation – October 2026
- 8-week public consultation (consultation on proposed plan content and evidence) – 1 June and 28 July 2027 (the day by which representations should be received)
- Publish summary of proposed plan content and evidence consultation – 21 September 2027
Gateway 2 - starts 16 November 2027
- Publish gateway findings – 23 December 2027
- 6-week consultation on proposed Local Plan – 3 March and 12 April 2028 (the day by which representations should be received)
- Publish summary of proposed Local Plan consultation – 1 June 2028
Gateway 3 - starts 1 July 2028
- Publish gateway findings – 2 August 2028
- Submission of Local Plan for examination – 4 September 2028
Six-month examination process
- Examination process, including hearing sessions – 4 September 2028 to 5 March 2029
- Adoption – 2 April 2029
