Water pollution
Water pollution can seriously damage the viability of ecosystems.
The UK has standards that:
- protect water resources in terms of public health and nutrition
- allow a greater number of species to prosper in rivers and other waters
The Environment Agency – GOV.UK is responsible for protecting the cleanliness and purity of watercourses and regulating emissions from prescribed industrial processes. Anyone discharging waste products into a watercourse or supply must have a consent permit from them.
