Conservation areas at risk
469 conservation areas in the UK were recorded as at risk by Historic England in 2025. This risk comes from pressure from inappropriate new development, vacancy, decay or damage.
Conservation areas at risk in Newark and Sherwood
In the Newark and Sherwood district, there are currently three conservation areas at risk:
- Newark conservation area
- Ollerton conservation area
- Upton conservation area
The main reasons for this relate to the level of vacancy and neglect.
As part of our review of the district’s conservation areas, we will produce management proposals for tackling heritage at risk.
Free pre-application advice
In addition, free pre-application advice will be given to projects where heritage is at risk.
This status will need to have been identified in either an appraisal document, or on the national national heritage at risk register or local buildings at risk register.
