Submit a CON29 search
You will need to complete a local land charge search if you are remortgaging or buying property or land. A search will help to find out if there are any matters affecting that property or piece of land.
Usually, a solicitor or a licensed conveyancer will request this document on your behalf.
A full search is usually carried out in two parts:
- an LLC1 search
- a CON29/CON290 search
LLC1 searches
We do not provide results for LLC1 searches (Local Land Charges Register). This is dealt with by HM Land Registry.
You can apply for an LLC1 search:
- using your HM Land Registry portal account – GOV.UK
- using Business Gateway – GOV.UK
- on GOV.UK – search for local land charges on land and property – GOV.UK
CON29 searches
CON29 searches, also known as CON29R searches, are made up of a series of standard enquiries of the local authority, agreed by the Law Society.
They deal with issues such as:
- road schemes
- planning history
- environmental matters
Information is collected from different departments including building control, planning, highways and environmental health.
CON29O searches
CON290 searches contain a series of further, optional questions. You can submitted them alone or with a CON29 request.
CON290 enquiries cover information that includes:
- house in multiple occupation
- noise abatement
- hazardous substance consents
If a fee is payable, we will not provide results until we receive payment.

You can also apply on the National Land Information Service (NLIS).
We aim to provide search results within 15 days of receiving an enquiry and the correct fee.
