Ask a question at a council meeting

How to write and submit a question for discussion at full council meetings.

Anyone who lives in Newark and Sherwood can submit questions to us for consideration at 'full council' meetings.

'Full council' is the main council committee, meaning all elected members attend. They:

  • take place six times a year
  • are open to the public
  • are webcast live
  • start at 6pm

Question requirements

Your question must be:

  • submitted no later than midday, eight days before the date of the meeting
  • relevant to council activities, or something which affects the area or residents

You also need to provide your full name and address.

Question may be rejected if they are deemed to be:

  • not relevant to council activities, the area or residents of the area
  • frivolous, defamatory, vexatious or offensive
  • too similar to a question already raised at a council meeting in the previous 6 months
  • requires the disclosure of confidential or exempt information when being answered.

Only one question can be submitted by any individual or behalf of an individual organisation.

The full process for this is in Part B of our constitution.
