What your Council Tax is used for

How we will distribute the money we receive from Council Tax in the 2025/26 financial year.

How it is shared out

Of every £1 you pay in Council Tax:

  • 73.4p goes to Nottinghamshire County Council
  • 11.5p goes to the Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner
  • 7.7p comes to us at Newark and Sherwood District Council
  • 3.7p goes to the Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service
  • 3.7p on average goes to your local town or parish council

So for a home in Band A paying £1721.48 per year in Council Tax, the bill would be split as follows:

  • £1,263.03 goes to Nottinghamshire County Council
  • £197.40 goes to the Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner
  • £132.40 comes to us at Newark and Sherwood District Council
  • £64.81 goes to the Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service
  • £63.84 on average goes to your local town or parish council

This represents an increase from last year, with each organisation increasing their part of your bill by different amounts:

  • Nottinghamshire County Council increased their charges by 4.84%
  • Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner increased their charges by 4.94%
  • At Newark and Sherwood District Council we increased our charges by 1.94%
  • Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service increased their charges by 5.42%
